Pagan Pride Project announcement

PAGAN PRIDE DAY 2011 CELEBRATIONS AGAIN A SUCCESS

We are pleased to announce that the 2011 Pagan Pride Day events were once again a huge success. There were a total of 83 events on four continents: in the United States, we held 66 events, Canada held 8 events in 4 provinces, Latin America saw 6 events in 5 countries, and the European Union held 3 events. In total, 42,799 attended our events worldwide, which was less than 2010, but still much higher than 2009 and 2008. Pagan Pride Day events will continue to grow in 2012 and beyond. These celebrations are free to attend and are geared towards increasing public understanding and acceptance of members of our religion and bringing the Pagan community together.

Pagan Pride Days are also giving back to our communities. At our 2011 events, people gave 29,073 pounds of food for local shelters and food banks in the United States and around the world. People attending Pagan Pride Day events also donated blood for local blood banks, financial donations to the Humane Society, food pantries, the Red Cross, SPCA, Cystic Fibrosis and the Spiral Scouts. Never forgetting our animal friends, 340 pounds of pet food were collected along with pet supplies. Also, some events donated money to charities in their communities, totaling over $1,700.00, in lieu of donations of food and goods.

The Pagan Pride Project, Inc. is dedicated towards educating people about Paganism is a completely volunteer organization. It is the Pagan community’s dedication to the organization and the success of our events that drives the people involved. Our organization would not be successful without support of others, so the Board of Directors would like to thank everyone involved, including but not limited to: local event coordinators and event volunteers; public sponsors and participants like the businesses, covens, churches, groves and groups who offered time and support; and all the attendees for their support of their local Pagan Pride Day events.

We oppose SOPA and PIPA

Magickal-Media opposes the proposed SOPA and PIPA legislation. As written, these bills would cause “News For Pagans” to disappear. We gently guide readers to other sites, but we do NOT infringe on copyright. We use others’ materials with permission or under the “fair use” act. The two internet bills ignore “fair use” and make it impossible to repost others’ info, even with permission.

Correction to “Operation Circle Care” posted earlier

There is still time to send items to our Pagan Troops via Operation Circle Care.  Names must be received by Dec. 1st.  A list of suggested items to donate can be found at: http://tiny.cc/operationcirclecare.  Please contact the coordinators at occ@circlesanctuary.org right away to obtain the address to send donated items to.

Items for veterans serving at some posts must be received by Dec. 1st, others must be received prior to Dec. 8th. Earlier I’d incorrectly posted that all items must be received by Dec. 1st.

More from their Facebook site:

We’re still taking names of Pagans who are stationed anywhere overseas or are on ships that are on deployment for Operation Circle Care, so please spread the word to ensure your friends and loved ones can receive a gift this Yule! We need names by December 1st for those who are stationed in Afghanistan, Kuwait, and others whose APO AP zipcodes start with 093. For all others, we have extended the deadline for those to December 8th.
Blessings, Jeanet Ewing Co-Coord, OCC

Solar Cross: Helping Native Elders w/ Winter Fuel

A press release from Solar Cross:

THE GIFT: WINTER FUEL FOR NATIVE ELDERS

 From T. Thorn Coyle

Because I feel thankful, because I know that gratitude is the seed of great magic, I want to use this Thanksgiving holiday to pass on some good fortune.

There is a rune in the northern traditions called gebo, the Gift. It looks like two lines crossing, forming an “X”. This can represent two things coming together, mutual obligation and responsibility. In my life, I take this as a reminder that my good fortune does not live in a vacuum, but requires me to continue to step forward, to meet that other line, locking the Gift into place. This keeps the magic flowing.

Each year, the elders at Pine Ridge, Rosebud, and other reservations have trouble heating their homes. 61% of the population lives below the poverty line. I won’t detail the years of injustice and neglect that have contributed to this situation, and right now, I don’t have the time, energy, and funds to rebuild every inadequate home on the reservation. What I do have the time and energy for is to collect money to help these families  – particularly the elders, some number of whom freeze to death each year – heat their homes. There is great injustice reflected in the way these people are living, and we can tip the balance slightly toward the good.

Solar Cross Temple is collecting donations and will send money directly to the heating companies who maintain a list of families who need propane fuel. 100% of the money after the paypal fees will go to this cause. The more money we collect, the longer into winter these families will have heat. We suggest donations of anywhere between $10-100 (or more for those of you who are truly blessed). Please put “Donation for Winter Fuel Drive” in the subject line so we know where to send the donation. And please pass this information along via any networks you are part of. There is a “donate” button in the left hand column of this page, if you scroll down.

Let’s give back to those from whom so much has been taken. Let us make this day holy.

Happy Thanksgiving

Pagan Warrior Radio Debuts for Veterans’ Day

From Rev. Selena Fox and Circle Sanctuary, and Pagans Tonight on Blog Talk Radio

Pagan Warrior Radio is a new internet radio show serving Pagan veterans and those on active duty in the United States Military, plus their family, friends, and supporters.

Pagan Warrior Radio debuts with a special Veterans Day show on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 8 pm CST on http://www.blogtalkradio.com/witchschool/2011/11/12/pagans-tonight–veterans-day-special.

The first part of the show will be a celebration of Military Pagans and their service. Several Pagan leaders and clergy who do support work with Pagan veterans and troops will be among the special guests on this special Veterans Day Celebration.

During the second part of the show, listeners are invited to call in and share their Veterans Day experiences and tributes to Pagan Warriors, living and dead. In addition, listeners can participate throughout the show through the chat room.

Beginning on November 15, Pagan Warrior Radio will move to its regular weekly time slot on Tuesdays from 9-10 pm CST.

This new weekly internet radio show will be hosted by co-founders Pamela Kelly of Texas and Selena Fox of Wisconsin.

Pamela grew up in a military family and is presently serving as the facilitator (DFGL/Distinctive Faith Group Leader) of the Pagan Circle at Sheppard Air Force Base. Selena, who worked for a short time in a civilian capacity for the office of the US Army Chief of Staff at the Pentagon, has been active in the quest for equal rights for Pagan troops and veterans and their families for more than thirty years. She is senior minister of Circle Sanctuary and director of Circle Sanctuary’s military ministries.

Pagan Warrior Radio is being sponsored and produced by Circle Sanctuary, in partnership with the Pagans Tonight Online Radio network. Circle Sanctuary, one of America’s oldest and largest Wiccan churches, sponsors Pagan Circles at US military installations and on ships in the USA and overseas, including in Afghanistan, Iraq, Korea, and Qatar.

“Pagans have served and are serving in each of the branches of the US Armed Forces. We are creating Pagan Warrior Radio as an additional way to support Pagan veterans and troops and their loved ones, and to be a forum for networking, education, and dialogue. Shows will be a mix of news, information, music, reflections, ideas, and call-in discussion,” says Selena.

Pamela adds: “Pagan Warrior Radio is for Pagans of many paths - Wiccans, Druids, Heathens, Unitarian Universalist Pagans, Pantheists, and others. Upcoming shows will include topics such as the Future of Pagan Military Chaplaincy, forming Pagan Circles at military installations, making portable altars, and more!”
